Our client, an educational facility is looking to hire an experienced Building Automation Technician/Specialist for an initial 6 months contract that could be extended beyond this term.

  • Responsibilities
    This position reports to the Manager of Maintenance, providing technical support, coordination, and leadership for the organization's BAS controls in the schools and facilities including but not limited to optimization initiatives in BAS and energy management. The Building Automation System Specialist will:
    • Define and coordinate all types of control systems associated with building automation and software, including information technology, safety, security, energy management, digital, electronic, electro-mechanical, and pneumatic.
    • Provides training for HVAC and BAS technicians on various control systems, sequences, and equipment of installed systems.
    • Provides training for maintenance managers to use building automation systems.
    • Recommends improvements to the server/network infrastructure, energy management strategies and BAS specifications.
    • Coordinates with the IT department to troubleshoot connection and communication issues.
    • Maintain data and information for reporting, conduct systems analysis and recommend appropriate equipment configurations and software upgrades.
    Responsibilities: Auditing, Installation & Commissioning
    • Develops recommendations for BAS system standards and installations, scope of work, and installation costs based on site audits across our offices/facilities.
    • Works with Supervisor of Energy Management, building operators and facilities managers to identify efficiencies and energy savings in building operations.
    • Validates commissioning inspections to transition projects from installation to on- going operation.
    • Works with the Senior Coordinator, Environmental Support Services to develop and implement the organizations building automation standards to include, but not be limited to, equipment sequencing, network access and security measures, accepted network types, and work practices.
    • Performs work in accordance with established processes and practices and for complying with internal and external requirements including but not limited to environmental, health and safety, fire protection to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Requirements
    Requirements:
    • College or Technical Diploma from an accredited program in Building Automation Systems, Electrical Engineering Technology, Energy Systems Technology or a related field of study or a combination of education and related experience.
    • Minimum three to five (3-5) years of experience in a BAS role consisting of technical experience repairing, performing maintenance, installing, modifying, calibrating and certifying equipment and facilities related to optimization and controls.
    • Proficiency and experience working with integration concepts and platforms such as BACnet, Lon, Modbus, Niagara Tridium N4 and AX.
    • Ability to modify programs and make corrections to systems to ensure proper functioning.
    • Experience implementing software code and managing all aspects of the software code delivery and servicing commercial Building Automation Systems (BAS).
    • Knowledge of optimization and energy management strategy for BAS system.
    • Extensive knowledge of HVAC systems/controls, and functions of building automation systems including security, fire, electrical, low voltage and control/interlock wiring systems
    • Ability to analyze trended data of energy, safety/security and HVAC equipment systems to trouble shoot and restore various system components.
    • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and interpret specifications.
    • Possesses strong analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
    • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Strong organizational skills and must be able to multi-task efficiently.
    • Knowledge of applicable building and electrical codes and standards and ability to research and apply related codes and standards.
    • Possesses a strong environmental, health and safety mindset in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety Standards and Board policies.
    • Valid drivers’ license.
    • Must be proficient in the use of personal computers and common software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point
    • Proficiency in SAP or work order software system is an asset.
