We are urgently hiring a Payroll Specialist for our client, a national retail distributor, to work on a 12-month contract! Reporting to the Payroll Supervisor, the selected individual will be responsible for administering payroll for employees across Canada. As a key member of the Payroll team, the Payroll Specialist will use subject matter expertise to support complete, timely and accurate execution of Workday payroll systems (including Payroll, Finance and Time & Labor modules), processes, projects, tools and analytic support on key objectives to effectively and efficiently process pay for the organization’s business partners.

  • Responsibilities
    Responsibilities:
    • Processes the full cycle of biweekly payrolls in a timely manner while ensuring accuracy, maintenance of all payroll data records and maintenance of effective auditable system of payroll accounting including: time and labor, vacation pay, authorized adjustments, correction, retro pay increases, bonus payments, mat leave payments, severance processing, etc.
    • Ensure proper documentation and authorizations are received and works with HR to ensure requirements are met
    • Analyzes and responds to complex matters requiring comprehensive knowledge of payroll policies and procedures
    • Provide HR Team members with information on Payroll processes and how HR policies are handled by payroll and impacts to the employees
    • Respond to and resolve employee inquiries; researches, resolves and makes appropriate adjustments within authority; provides feedback to management as required
    • Reviews, analyzes and verifies payroll reports and documents for accuracy, run queries as required
    • Gather back-up reports, update spreadsheets, reconcile numbers
  • Requirements
    Qualifications:
    • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel & Word
    • Workday system experience preferred
    • Strong knowledge of standard legislative including ESA, Revenue Canada and Revenue Quebec guidelines and Employment Insurance
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills
    • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and maintain accuracy
