Staffworks is hiring a seasoned law clerk/legal assistant for our regulatory client on a contract basis.

The Law Clerk/Legal Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the legal department, focusing on Discipline, Registration, and Unlicensed Practice matters. This position involves assisting in the preparation of legal documents, maintaining accurate legal records, and ensuring all processes comply with relevant regulations. This role requires collaboration with in-house counsels and various teams to manage legal operations efficiently.

Start Date: Early May 2025

Duration of Contract: 12 months

Location: Hybrid Remote – North York (2 days/week in office) TTC Accessible!

  • Responsibilities
    • - Prepare and draft legal correspondence, disclosure books, witness briefs, and Registrar’s certificates.
    • - Collaborate with legal counsel on drafting correspondence and supporting litigation and compliance-related matters.
    • - Manage and process expenses, including gathering receipts, filing documents, and preparing expense reports.
    • - Assist with billing procedures, including managing and processing invoices.
    • - Organize, maintain, and ensure the accuracy of electronic legal documents and files.
    • - Scan and digitize historical legal documents and files, ensuring they are properly organized and integrated into the electronic document management system.
  • Requirements
    Specialized Skills and Knowledge
    • - In-depth knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and the legal system.
    • - Strong ability to work independently with excellent problem-solving skills.
    • - Exceptional attention to detail and strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
    • - Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, with the capacity to effectively manage a high volume of work.
    • - Strong time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and handle competing priorities.
    • - Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive information.
    • - Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Adobe Pro, etc.), with strong computer skills.
    • - Experience with case management systems and other legal software.
    Education/Qualifications:
    • - Law Clerk diploma and/or Paralegal certificate
    • - 3–5 years of experience as a law clerk, legal assistant or legal secretary in a corporate in-house department, law firm, or similar environment.

    • - Strong ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail in all legal tasks and documentation.
    • - Sound judgment to identify when issues require escalation to Legal Counsel, ensuring timely and appropriate action is taken.

    • - Self-motivated and disciplined, with a strong ability to set and meet deadlines, and thrive in high-pressure environments.

    • - Committed to working with high attention to detail and strict adherence to procedural requirements, ensuring accuracy and reliability in results.
