Job Details:

Staffworks is seeking a Full-Time Bookkeeper/Accountant for our client, a Downtown Toronto-based Merchant bank. The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in full-cycle bookkeeping, payroll administration, compliance, and financial reporting, as well as experience in tracking investments and preparing investment-related summaries. This role is essential in maintaining accurate financial records for our main operating company, related investment/holding companies, and small operating companies in which the firm or its principals hold significant interests.

  • Responsibilities
    Key Responsibilities:
    • Full Cycle Bookkeeping: Maintain and manage accurate financial records for the main operating company, related investment/holding companies, and small operating companies.
    • Payroll Administration: Administer payroll processing, ensuring timely and accurate disbursements.
    • GST/HST Returns and Compliance: Prepare and submit GST/HST returns and manage related compliance matters such as WSIB, EHT, etc.
    • Investment Tracking & Accounting: Track, monitor, and report on portfolio investments, ensuring accurate accounting of investment transactions and balances.
    • Investment Summaries & Schedules: Prepare and maintain detailed investment summaries, schedules, and reports for executives, ensuring clarity and accuracy of financial data related to the company’s holdings.
    • Financial Reporting: Prepare daily reports, quarterly financial packages, and support financial statement preparation and tax planning.
    • Executive Expense Management: Oversee and manage the personal expenses of corporate executives, ensuring proper documentation and compliance.
    • Office Administration: Assist with general office administrative duties as required, ensuring smooth office operations.
  • Requirements
    Required Qualifications:
    • Education: Diploma in Bookkeeping, Accounting, or a relevant designation.
    • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of full-cycle bookkeeping experience.
    • Compliance Knowledge: Strong understanding and hands-on experience with payroll administration, GST/HST returns, and other compliance-related matters (e.g., WSIB, EHT).
    • Investment Experience: Experience in tracking and accounting for portfolio investments and preparing related investment summaries, schedules, and reports.
    • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). Familiarity with accounting software is a plus.
    • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Work Ethic: Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
    • Organization: High attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
